Working with primary and secondary schools in the Allerdale and Copeland areas

At the West Cumbria Learning Centre we aim to safeguard and promote our pupils' welfare, safety and health.  We believe in involving children and young people in decision-making in school.  This includes activities within the curriculum, personal and social education, and emotional aspects of learning.  Children are encouraged to share any concerns they may have, and we make a promise to take their concerns seriously and to act upon them.

The staff of the West Cumbria Learning Centre are in a good position to keep a watchful eye on children to keep them safe and to protect them from harm. If staff have any concerns regarding a child's safety, they have a duty to inform the Designated Safeguarding Lead, or Deputy Safeguarding Leads immediately.

Designated Safeguarding Lead: Helen Johnson

Deputy Safeguarding Leads:  Kerry Cox / Jo McGlasson / Mark Stewart

The Education Act (2002) states that, "The Governing Body ..... shall make arrangements for ensuring that their functions relating to the conduct of the school are exercised with a view to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children ...."

The Management Committee Member (governor) with responsibility for safeguarding is: Peter Harlow
