Working with primary and secondary schools in the Allerdale and Copeland areas

Primary Sports Funding

This funding has been provided to get more people playing sport safely from a young age, and to help them keep playing sport throughout their life, no matter what their economic or social background.

The West Cumbria Learning Centre has been allocated a Primary PE Sports Grant of £500 for 2018-2019.

This funding will be used to deliver a multi-discipline sporting programme for all pupils in KS2.

The West Cumbria Learning Centre was allocated a £1,375 Primary PE Sports Grant for 2017-2018.

The funding was used to deliver an outdoor pursuits sporting programme.

All KS2 pupils participated in the programme, overcoming personal challenges to learn new skills, and to develop their understanding of healthy lifestyle choices.

The programme helped to build self-confidence and self-esteem, which the children have been able to take forward to all other areas of the curriculum.  Pupils will continue to benefit from outdoor learning opportunities provided by the Centre, with the hope that the skills they have been taught, and the social and emotional benefits they have experienced, will continue to impact upon their learning.

As the programme was delivered in the Lake District National Park, close to the Centre, it is hoped that the students will have developed a love of the outdoors, and outdoor pursuits, which they will carry with them through their lives.

100% of our Year 6 cohort met the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
