Writing

Most of the children attending the West Cumbria Learning Centre in Key Stage 2 are in Years 4, 5 and 6 with a wide range of academic abilities.  It is recognised that many of the children, however, not all, will have considerable literacy difficulties and that their individual difficulties need to be met in order for them to successfully reintegrate into mainstream school.  It is acknowledged that some pupils may be working on KS2 curriculum objectives.


The English scheme of work primarily focuses on the acquisition and practise of basic skills for each individual child, with children completing similar tasks at their appropirate level.

Children will experience a variety of fiction and non-fiction writing through, 'The Power of Reading', which will use a text as a focus for a half-term of work.  The focus of the writing will include:
