Working with primary and secondary schools in the Allerdale and Copeland areas

About us

The West Cumbria Learning Centre (WCLC) offers education to pupils across Key Stages 2, 3 and 4, working with pupils who are at risk of permanent exclusion, pupils who benefit from a specialist vocational (alternative) curriculum, pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs and pupils who are not able to attend mainstream provision for other reasons such as illness (physical or psychological), or pregnancy.

The Centre delivers a broad and balanced curriculum, therapeutic intervention and, where appropriate, support within mainstream schools to meet the needs of pupils, their families and schools. The inclusive work of the Centre means we have the ability and capability to re-integrate students into a mainstream setting with a truly revolving door philosophy and also provide longer term placements for students as their needs dictate.

The staff and pupils work together in a caring and nurturing atmosphere. We adopt a collaborative approach to meeting the needs of pupils, working with other agencies to provide a holistic package of support.  All of our work is child-centred and we take the views of our pupils into account throughout their time with us.
